Ready to roll, this colorful, solid-wood Stacking Train from Melissa & Doug will have kids on the fast track to fun! Little engineers will love stacking and restacking the 15 interchangeable wooden “cargo” blocks on the sturdy pegs and pushing the freight cars to the next big job!
If you think the Wooden Stacking Train is all fun and games, think again. Thanks to the creative minds at Melissa & Doug, the wooden stacking train comes with helpful extension activities that will help teach basic color recognition, sorting, fine motor skills, problem solving and beginning counting skills. Here’s how:

  • Ask the child to count the number of cars on the train. Ask the child to point to the car that has only one shape “cargo” block on it. Ask the child to identify the shape of the “cargo” block. If the child is not familiar with the shape, explain that it is a rectangle.
  • Ask the child to remove all the “cargo” blocks from the train and sort them by color. Count each color group with the child. Repeat the activity until the child is able to count each group independently.
  • Place all the blocks in a row. Ask the child to count each block. Repeat activity until the child is able to count all fifteen blocks.

  • Ask the child to count the wheels on the train and to identify their shape. If the child is not familiar with the shape, explain that a wheel is round like a circle.

There are so many fun and creative activities to do with the Melissa & Doug Stacking Train. It’s a great value that will last a lifetime.
